How I Tackled My Cat’s Food Allergies

Chester, my 7 year old British Longhair, suffers from many food allergies and cannot digest some of the proteins that are found in most cat foods. I find that the problem is rather hard to tackle because finding decent cat food that is sensitive to his particular palate is quite difficult. For many years I struggled finding him something that he likes to eat whilst also catering to his digestive needs.

What I have found that actually works is a brand called Royal Canin Cat Food. They produce a wide range of food that is specifically tailored to different allergies and cat food sensitivities. Chester really likes Royal Canin’s food; in fact over the last two years that I have been feeding him this brand he has put on a lot more weight and his coat looks so much healthier.

The only down-side of buying Royal Canin Sensitivity is that it can be quite expensive when you choose to purchase it from your local vet or pet shop. What I do now is I go online and usually buy the food in bulk so that I can make the largest amount of savings. Understandably Royal Canin will always be little bit more expensive than your standard cat food, but it is well-worth it once you see the results in your pet.

I was actually pretty impressed with the range of flavours that they had and the fact that Chester really took to their food. Usually when I give him something it takes a while for him to get used to it and to actually start enjoying it, but I didn’t seem to have that problem this time.

In general I would recommend this brand to other cat lovers – especially if they have to deal with a cat that has allergies and/or issues with their digestive system. I am no scientist, but from seeing the results on Chester I can definitely say with a lot of confidence that sometimes changing your cat’s food can really make a difference to their overall health and happiness!
